1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated through your use of the service.
Information you provide
- Account information — email address, display name, and password (stored as a one-way bcrypt hash; we never store your plain-text password).
- Meal preferences — cuisine preferences, dietary restrictions, allergies, household size, and meal type selections you enter during onboarding or in your profile.
- Pantry data — ingredients you manually enter, photograph, or scan into your pantry inventory.
- Custom recipes — recipes you add manually, import via URL, or import via photo.
- Meal plans — recipes and weekly meal plans you save within the app.
- Chef AI conversations — messages you send to My Chef and the responses generated.
- Photos — images you upload for pantry scanning, receipt scanning, or recipe photo import. Photos are processed in real time and not retained beyond the duration of a single request.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — AI token usage associated with your account for billing and cap-enforcement purposes.
- Server logs — IP addresses, browser type, and request timestamps recorded by our server for security monitoring and operational maintenance. Logs are retained for up to 30 days.
- Session data — a session token stored in a browser cookie to keep you logged in.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To provide personalized meal plans, recipe recommendations, and pantry-aware shopping lists.
- To operate the Chef AI assistant and process your requests.
- To build and send grocery carts to Instacart or Walmart at your request.
- To send transactional emails — account verification, password resets, meal plans, and shopping lists — at your request or as required for account security.
- To enforce AI usage limits and process subscription payments.
- To send service-related communications (trial expiry reminders, billing notices).
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your personal information.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the service providers listed below, solely to operate the ForkTasker service, and only to the extent necessary for each provider's function.
No third-party service provider receives your full profile. Each receives only the minimum data required to perform their specific function.
- Anthropic — processes your Chef AI messages and any photos you upload for AI-powered features. See Section 4.
- Stripe — processes subscription payments and manages the customer billing portal. See Section 5.
- Instacart (via Composio) — receives ingredient names to build your grocery cart. No account information is shared. See Section 6.
- Walmart Affiliate API — receives ingredient queries to resolve product IDs and build your cart. No account information is shared. See Section 6.
- Resend — sends transactional emails on our behalf. Receives your email address and display name for delivery purposes. See Section 7.
- Hostinger — provides the virtual private server infrastructure on which ForkTasker runs and stores data. Hostinger provides the physical hosting environment only and does not access your application data.
We may also disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ForkTasker, our users, or others.
4. AI Processing (Anthropic)
ForkTasker uses Anthropic's Claude AI to power the Chef AI assistant, generate meal plans, and process pantry and receipt photos. When you interact with My Chef or upload a photo for scanning, that content is sent to Anthropic's API for processing.
Anthropic's privacy policy prohibits using your conversation data to train their AI models. Photos you upload are processed in real time and are not stored by ForkTasker beyond the duration of the request. Please review Anthropic's Privacy Policy for full details on their data practices.
5. Payment Processing (Stripe)
Subscription payments and billing portal access are handled by Stripe. When you subscribe, you are directed to Stripe's secure checkout. ForkTasker does not receive, store, or have access to your full credit card number or payment card details at any time. Stripe stores and processes all payment information under their own security standards and privacy policy.
ForkTasker receives confirmation of your subscription status, plan type, and renewal dates from Stripe in order to manage your account access.
6. Grocery Integrations
When you use the Instacart or Walmart cart features, ForkTasker sends your ingredient list (names and quantities) to those platforms to build a pre-filled cart. This process uses ingredient data only — your name, email address, and account details are never shared with Instacart or Walmart as part of cart building.
You complete checkout directly on the Instacart or Walmart platform, which is governed by their own privacy policies.
7. Email Communications (Resend)
ForkTasker uses Resend to send transactional emails including account verification, password resets, trial expiry notices, meal plan emails, and shopping lists. Resend receives your email address and display name solely for delivery purposes.
These are service emails required for the operation of your account, not marketing emails. You may opt out of non-essential communications by contacting support@forktasker.com.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active.
If you cancel your subscription, your meal plans, pantry, preferences, and account data remain on file for 90 days after cancellation. This gives you a window to resubscribe with everything exactly as you left it. After 90 days, your data is permanently deleted.
You may request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data at any time — before the 90-day period expires — by emailing support@forktasker.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Server logs (IP addresses, request logs) are retained for up to 30 days for security purposes, then deleted. AI token usage logs used for billing enforcement are retained for the duration of your account.
9. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encryption in transit — all data between your browser and our servers is transmitted over HTTPS using TLS encryption.
- Password hashing — passwords are hashed using bcrypt with a unique salt before storage. We cannot recover your plain-text password.
- Access controls — all database queries enforce row-level user isolation, ensuring each user can only access their own data.
- No third-party analytics — we do not use Google Analytics, ad networks, or behavioral tracking tools. No third party tracks your behavior on ForkTasker.
- Private infrastructure — your data is stored on a dedicated virtual private server hosted by Hostinger (hostinger.com), located in the United States. Hostinger does not have access to your application data.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
10. Your Rights
You have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- Access — you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — you may request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data. Most profile data can be updated directly within the app.
- Deletion — you may request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.
- Portability — you may request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Restriction — you may request that we limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@forktasker.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity before processing your request.
11. Age Requirements
ForkTasker is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their account and associated data. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at support@forktasker.com.
12. Cookies and Tracking
ForkTasker uses a single session cookie to keep you logged in between visits. This cookie contains only a secure session token and does not track your behavior across other websites.
We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, social network plugins, or behavioral analytics tools. We do not respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals because we do not track users across sites in the first place.
13. Legal Disclosures
We may disclose your personal information when required by law, subpoena, court order, or other governmental authority. We may also disclose data to protect the rights, property, or safety of ForkTasker, our users, or others, or to detect and prevent fraud or illegal activity.
For operation and security purposes, our servers automatically record interaction logs including IP addresses. These may be used in connection with legal matters arising from misuse of the service.
14. Changes to This Policy
We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where feasible, by sending an email notice to your registered address or displaying a notice within the app.
Your continued use of ForkTasker after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
15. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a resident of California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information. This section describes those rights and how to exercise them.
Categories of personal information we collect
- Identifiers — email address, display name, IP address, session tokens.
- Personal information — meal preferences, dietary restrictions, pantry contents.
- Internet/network activity — server logs, session data, AI usage data.
- Payment information — subscription status (full payment card data is held by Stripe, not us).
We do not sell your personal information
ForkTasker does not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration. You therefore have no need to opt out of a sale.
Your California rights
- Right to know — you may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you over the past 12 months, the purposes for which we collected it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
- Right to delete — you may request deletion of personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights. We will not deny you services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of service based on your exercise of these rights.
How to submit a request
To exercise your California privacy rights, contact us at support@forktasker.com with the subject line "California Privacy Request." We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will notify you of the reason and extension period (up to 90 days total).
